Things I wish I had known before coming

It's been almost a month since I arrived in South Korea, and I've learned some things I wish I had known beforehand.

Navigating in South Korea can be pretty challenging. The two apps that people often recommend over Google Maps are Naver Maps and KakaoMap. I suggest using Naver Maps if you visit, as it helps you navigate buses and subways effectively. Although KakaoMap offers an English language option, you'll find that much of the content is still in Korean, making it difficult for those who can't read Korean to use the app properly.

I also recommend getting your FRC card as soon as possible. I regret not doing this sooner, as many things require the FRC card and its associated identification number. For example, you cannot obtain a phone number or a bank account in South Korea without the identification number that comes with your FRC card.

I would also recommend that anyone coming who wants a Korean phone number before they get their FRC card use Chingu Mobile. I am currently using their services to find a phone number until I can get my FRC card.
